I have always suspected it was tire noise, but I'm not 100% sure. I've also thought it might be some kind of natural harmonic in the fairing that's excited by the tires at that speed, as that's where the noise seems to be coming from.

I’ve never changed the fluid in it (creeping up to 68k miles here in a few days or so, I have a long commute to work). The noise seems to go away at 65 and above.
